How to feel “guilt-free” taking a pause…
Self-care strategies to help you “pause” guilt-free and reenergize your mind, body and soul…
We owe it to ourselves to “pause” and recalibrate after a hard week or month. Yes, you deserve just that….so how do we get over the guilt of taking a “pause”?
Are you someone who is go-go-go all the time and feel guilty or anxious if you slow down or don’t have concrete plans for the day? You’re not alone! In fact a study in Forbes in 2019 showed that 37% of women feel guilty taking time for themselves. While 60% of individuals feel overwhelmed or burnt out Yet 70% of these individuals wish they had more self-care and time for themselves.
So, why is it so hard to feel “guilt-free” taking time? Here are just a few culprits:
society has built a “busy” badge of honor culture
our friends & family obligations or judgements
our own perspective of our self worth & self value
Many of my clients suffer from this and I too have grappled with getting to a place of comfort prioritizing self-care and knowing it gives way more back than we even realize. The weekend is just around the corner and a great time to start giving back to yourself in a way that I promise will give back to others organically.
Give these three easy self-care tips a try:
take just 20 mins to do something physical and if you can, in a new environment (nature is a great place to explore)
sit quietly without any distractions and listen to “positive affirmations” (there are a ton on Youtube) if you enjoy it try and do this once a day - its Magic!
breathwork - if you haven’t tried it here is an easy way to start. Sit quietly and take a deep breath in to a count of 3 secs, hold for 3 then release for 3. Do this 3x and just embrace the calm that comes with it. Think about what you really want to be doing today and make it happen.
A recent National study shows self-care benefits amongst Americans as follows, 64% felt increased self confidence, 61% showed enhanced productivity, and 71% showed improved happiness. Mentalhealthfirstaid.org
Stop waiting for when “you’ll have more time” and start doing a little each day to squash the guilt and create a more balanced and enhanced life.
