Looking For That Next Career Chapter?
Are you in between jobs? Or, want to find that next chapter while still in a role you know you want to exit?
Here are three tips to help you stay marketable, earn some money and possibly help you determine that next chapter while in limbo…
1) What are you great at?
Consider and write down all the things you feel you are good at. What would other’s say you are great at and how maybe you have helped them at some point? Remember this doesn’t have to be related to the job you have or just left. It can be anything you enjoy doing. What value can you offer?
2) Network
Reach out to your entire network and let them know what it is that you can do and help with during this time. Tell them it is a little side hustle so they know you want to earn some $ from it. Also let them know it can be free lance or contract. Or if its in line with where you want to take your career then yes a full time job. People like to refer good people and hire those that have a warm introduction too.
3) Ask for referrals and/or testimonials
This can be from both your previous peers or the new ones you may do some work for. This will help build credibility and can be shared with future employers or opportunities when the time comes.
I have worked with many individuals who did work, in what some might call “odd” jobs in between roles or while in a job they wanted to exit. This led some to a completely new path in their career they didn’t expect. The door of opportunity opened, and they embraced it and made some money in the meantime and some entered a completely new career path.
So, try not to let the overwhelm of change weigh you down. Try to think of how you can keep the energy around work alive.
“Energy Breeds Energy”
So, if you’re feeling stuck or stagnant, use these tips as a way to explore what could be next. No commitment necessary as a freelancer but a chance to see what might excite you in the process.
All the best to your success & journey!
